Evergreen Estates Community Background

Evergreen-Estates-StreetEvergreen Estates is a 99 hectare parcel of land bordering Fish Creek Provincial Park to the north and west, Evergreen Street and James McKevitt Road to the east, and Fish Creek Boulevard (formerly Evergreen Boulevard) to the south. It is being developed as a low density residential community as required by the Evergreen Estates Policy Report. A central open space will form the hub of a linear park system accommodating pathways linking the adjoining communities to Fish Creek Provincial Park.

 

 

Shawnee-Evergreen Community Association (SECA)

Evergreen-Estates-LogoThe SHAWNEE-EVERGREEN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION comprises two areas; Shawnee Slopes and Evergreen Estates. Shawnee Slopes was originally considered part of Midnapore. Development in the area began in 1986 and has been primarily low density residential in nature. Shawnee Slopes is bounded by Fish Creek Provincial Park to the north, Midnapore to the east, Millrise to the south and Evergreen Estates to the west. The land in this community is characterized by gently undulating prairie, typical of the Calgary region. Major slopes are found along the Fish Creek Valley. The community has a provincially designated historic site, the Shaw Woollen Mill, located near the intersection of James McKevitt Road S.W. and Macleod Trail. Residents of this community enjoy direct access to the downtown via Macleod Trail, and close proximity to the many recreation opportunities found within Fish Creek Provincial Park.

HERE IS WHAT THE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION (SECA) DOES:

  • Hosts Easter Egg Hunt at Evergreen Park (1611 Evergreen Drive SW)
  • Hosts the June Family Stampede Breakfast (free for members and their resident family) at Evergreen Park
  • Sponsors the June Annual Community Parade of Garage Sales
  • Sponsors Community Cleanup in September
  • Provides input and authorizes the monthly Community Newsletter delivered to all 1900+ households
  • Provides a member on the Board of the Cardel Rec South Complex Association
  • Supports the Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society
  • Works with Cardel Homes, Genstar and the City to ensure that Shawnee Park is developed in a way that melds with our existing community as well as is possible
  • Diligently alert to the future development of lands surrounding the Fish Creek-Lacombe LRT station
  • Is involved with the City on transportation issues (e.g. SW Ring Road development, traffic and safety issues, etc.) that impact our community
  • Addresses speeding and other traffic issues within our community (e.g. Shawnee Drive SW and 6th Street SW intersection improvements)
  • Membership in SECA provides opportunity to enjoy 20% reduction in Trico Centre fees (and avoid Trico $30.00 Community Support Fee)
